

Private Pilots Licence
Pre-Course Requirements

Age
You are able to start training at 14 and fly solo at 16 but must be a minimum of 17 years old to obtain your private pilot’s licence.
In order to fly solo you must have a suitable medical.

Medical
There are a variety of different medical certificates to choose from. Discuss with your instructor.
Flying

Syllabus
The PPL syllabus covers 19 exercises over 42 hours. The exercises will include: aircraft handling, approach and landing, navigation and a skills test preparation lesson.

Training
Each lesson will start with a brief and an aircraft inspection before flying. Every manoeuvre will be demonstrated by your instructor.

Flying Solo
The first time that you go solo will be something that you will cherish for the rest of your life!
Our instructors will never send you solo before you’re ready, so enjoy this moment.

Theory Exams
To complete the Licence 9 multiple choice exams must be completed in the following subjects:

The pass mark is 75%

Radio Practical
In order to use radio transmitting equipment you are required to take a practical radio exam. This will test your radio telephony knowledge and allow you to communicate with other traffic and air traffic control units.
What can you do with your licence

Endless Possibilities
You will be training for a Private Pilot Licence with ‘a single engine piston (SEP) class rating’. This entitles you to fly aircraft within that class up to a maximum take-off weight of 5700kg, for private and recreational purposes only.
With this license you can fly in 2, 4 or even 6 seater aircraft. So why not fly friends to the Scilly Isles for lunch, or family to Paris for a weekend break! The possibilities are endless!
